Family P.E. Week is next week! Have you contacted Mrs. Brenek and/or Mr. Guth on when your child’s class is? We can’t wait to have you all in the buildings on October 8th and/or 9th! Not only will you be with Mrs. Brenek and/or Mr. Guth but their student teachers too! We are so excited to have Mr. Ramirez (BES) and Mr. Anderson (BMS) with us. Here’s a little more about Mr. Guth and Mr. Anderson: Mr. Guth has been at Brookwood for 18 years and is super excited to have a student teacher this year because he thinks it is exciting to mentor someone who brings fresh ideas and innovative approaches, which can invigorate both students and the learning environment. The collaboration that happens between Guth and his student teacher also fosters professional growth, allowing Guth to reflect on his own practices while guiding Mr. Anderson through his early teaching journey. Additionally, having an extra teacher means more personalized support for students, creating a more dynamic and responsive classroom. Guth thinks Brookwood stands out as an exceptional school due to its people. Brookwood is fortunate to have dedicated students, a committed staff, and a supportive community. The school’s smaller size fosters personalized attention for each student and creates a tight-knit environment where meaningful connections can thrive. This sense of community, combined with a focus on individual growth, sets Brookwood apart in a way that wouldn’t be possible in a larger school setting. Guth says that the Personal Wellness class at BMS is special because the class focuses on teaching students important life skills like teamwork, empathy, and emotional intelligence while also fostering physical health. By integrating activities that challenge both the body and mind, students learn how to maintain a balanced lifestyle. Additionally, the small class sizes allow for more personalized attention while creating a safe space for students to grow socially and emotionally. This combination of physical, emotional, and social learning makes Personal Wellness a standout program at Brookwood Middle School. Mr. Anderson is currently finishing his last semester at Carthage College where he is pursuing his degree in Exercise and Sports Science and Secondary Education and Health. Anderson has had amazing relationships with some of his teachers growing up and wanted to be “that” teacher for others. He wants to be a positive role model to students and help teach and grow the next generations to come. He thinks the close knit community makes Brookwood amazing and his experience has been great so far — the students are great and he loves how active the community is with Brookwood. Don’t forget to contact Mr. Guth if you have a child or children at our middle school to find out when they have their Personal Wellness class! Matt.Guth@gcj2.k12.wi.us

The 5th and 6th graders will be traveling to the College of Lake County in Grayslake, IL on October 29th to attend a live musical performance titled Frida Kahlo and the Bravest Girl in the World. This is a 45-minute operetta sung in English and Spanish. Students will learn about this performance in music class. We will have class discussions and complete class activities while learning about singing/vocal ranges, instruments, storyline, and being a good audience member, among other aspects of the performance.

BMS Garden Club has been busy harvesting produce to donate to the local food pantry (Loaves & Fishes). On September 11th, the club planted memorial daffodils in honor of 9/11. Club members are learning a lot and also feeling great about doing something important for the community. This pair beautiful pair of sandhills have also been visiting near the garden quite often lately! Many signs that Fall is near -- even though it's been hot and dry. Special thanks for the new garden equipment provided by Mr. & Mrs. Witherill's Homesteading Club. The new tools and bags are awesome and the new hose makes it very easy to water! Thank you to all of our community garden members for all their hard work -- without you, this wouldn't be possible for our students. This has been the best garden yet!

Have you noticed some beautification that has been happening at the sign for the Hunter’s Ridge neighborhood entrance on Meadow Drive? These boys and their grandmother, Candy, have been working on pulling the weeds, pruning the plants, and will eventually install some new plants into this entrance area. They’ve been volunteering their time and have purchased items on their own to keep our community beautiful. We are so thankful they are a part of our Brookwood Family and not only showcase how to Be Brookwood at school, but outside of school, as well! Also, a HUGE thank you shout out to all of our village workers and community members that also work hard to make Genoa City great…as we all continue to Grow into Greatness. Way to make us #MustangProud!! In a world where you can be anything….be kind, be safe, be responsible…. BE BROOKWOOD! 💙
