It's School Board Week! Did you know.....our School Board members are committed to their own learning!? At the recent Wisconsin Association of School Boards (WASB) Regional Meeting, Board Clerk, Katie Coari, received her Level 1 Award and Board Vice President, Karen Druszczak, received her Level 2 Award. Board members earn these awards by attending Professional Development Activities to increase their own learning. Way to make us #MustangProud! #BrookwoodsBest

Every afternoon, Mrs. Renn's kindergarteners work on their Be Brookwood skills. They practice being kind, safe, and responsible during Play Workshop. They make a plan with their group to make sure they are ready to get along and play nicely. Each day, students choose which activities or areas they want to participate taking turns going first at. Their activities change every two weeks. Students can build, play pretend, and explore with their classmates. Students have so much fun working with their peers to polish up on their Be Brookwood skills. #BrookwoodsBest

Students in Mrs. Brault's Kindergarten classroom love participating in math centers! Centers are a mix of hands-on, technology, and paper-pencil work. Students at the green table sorted 5-frame drawings by the number they corresponded to, then drew in a 5-frame to match the given number; students at the burgundy table sorted real objects by shape on Seesaw and then worked on IXL to improve their number sense; students at the red table filled in the missing number on their number cards and then used a pencil to write what number was missing, and students on the rug sorted a variety of things that were in the sensory table. Thanks to Meemic Foundation Grants, Ms. Skalecki was able to get supplies for her classroom. The Meemic Foundation is dedicated to advancing and improving education by providing grants for teachers, educators and schools. HELP! On October 14th, which is scheduled to be a staff professional development day, our district staff will be involved in a poverty simulation. The poverty simulation is ran by the UW-Extension and aims to dispel myths of poverty and increase empathy and understanding. For a successful, meaningful simulation, we are still in need of 10 volunteers to pretend and play the roles of community members such as a community health care doctor, and employer, super-center clerk, child care provider, quick cash employee, pawn broker...etc. Adult volunteers would need to arrive at Brookwood Elementary at 8:15 am on October 14th. There will be an introduction and instructions to volunteers at this time. The simulation begins at 9:00 am and concludes following a debriefing at 11:45 am. We are SO excited to have the support we do to ensure our kids at both buildings are safe and learning. Chief Balog from the Genoa City Police Department and Mr. Braden our elementary school principal are both ALICE Certified Trainers and are excited to meet with our students in both buildings to talk more about school safety. They will be using ALICE certified curriculum which is designed to talk with kids about school safety at age appropriate levels. Not only has our staff been ALICE trained and certified but we also recently hosted a free family/community night in regards to ALICE as well.
