Last week, our 1st graders took their field trip to Veterans Park and the Badger High School greenhouses! The students had a lot of fun playing together at the park and then learning from high schoolers about how to care for plants. Our students even had a chance to plant their own flower! This was a great way to finish their unit learning all about plants!

BES Mustangs' Summer Countdown Calendar!!
Congratulations, Bella! Bella guessed the closest date and time for when the first chick would "pip" at BES. Pipping is when the chick first cracks a breathing hole in the egg shell prior to coming out. As of right now, there are 3 chicks and a duck for the scientists to observe before they go to their forever coops/pens.
BES Kindness Squad is very excited about their last service project of the year! They have set their minds to preparing and running a donation drive for the Lakeland Animal Shelter. Kindness Squad needs the help of our Brookwood families, friends and the community to make their donation drive a success. Here is a video they have helped to prepare to get the word out about Lakeland Animal Shelter and their donation drive that runs from May 15 - May 29th! Following the donation drive, they will be hand delivering the donations to the shelter and providing some hands-on service work while at the shelter.

The kindergarteners and first graders have been learning about The Wild Symphony this semester. For the Busy Beetles, which depicts beetles building houses, the students built cup towers while the music played. This was an idea suggested by one of the first graders. The students cooperated in groups to silently build their towers and showcased great teamwork!
First Grade did a fun writing review week of writing detailed steps on how to make different kinds of food. They started with how to make a PB&J sandwich. The classes even got to teach their teacher how to make a PB&J, which was a fun hands-on experience. Then they wrote sentences about how to make a pizza and created their own pizza. On Friday, they finished off with writing steps on how to make a smore.
Way to work hard, Mustangs!
Happy Monday, Mustangs!

Our spring forest outing last week offered a variety of activities for all ages. Students across the district spent some time in our school forest. Groups spent time doing various activities such as removing an invasive species to save the forest, use binocular-hand lenses-viewers to observe off trail, collect and make bookmarks & bracelets, scavenger hunts, and see the
community garden.
For some groups, another part of the day was spent doing eco-art projects, playing predator-prey tag, and beginning their units on children's mental health. It was a day packed full
of exploration, observation, learning and creativity!
Yesterday, the BES Running Club and BMS Track Team did their annual end of season run together. BMS students as well as some parents helped the BES Running Club run to the Middle School and back. They all did fantastic with the 2 1/2 mile run! Way to go Mustangs!

This morning, the 3rd grade Kindness Squad (with the help of their families) put on an amazing breakfast for the BES teachers! There was everything from biscuits and gravy, eggs, sausage, yogurt with granola, waffle bar, beautiful fruit, yummy pastries, and desserts. The students were beyond excited to be able to serve the teachers breakfast. We are so proud of their dedication to kindness and serving others.
BES Kindness Squad students will start their trip at Lakeland park for some fun along with team building. After a picnic lunch, they are headed to the Lakeland Animal Shelter to deliver supplies from their upcoming donation drive. While there, students will be engaged in animal education to build empathy and understanding, tour the shelter and then will be doing some hands on service work at the shelter. --May 30th (10:30 - 2:30)
