On April 11th, the Genoa City Joint 2 School District welcomed families, community members, and business partners into the middle school for a Community Partnership Thank You Reception. The District had a student artwork showcase led by the students of Kim Garrett and Missy Horak, and as a part of the reception, the District shared a presentation on various programs that are supported through Brookwood families and community members, such as: The Community Garden, The School Forest, The Brookwood Closet, Holiday Bundles, and School Supply Kits. Grab your blankets BES families... It's time for a picnic!
When: June 6th 11:30-12
You are invited to join your child for a picnic lunch on the last day of school. Students can choose to purchase a school lunch of a hot dog, juice, fruit, veggies, and milk or join you for your own special lunch.
At 11:15 we will have our 3rd grade parade throughout the building. All parents and guests will be asked to form a line outside the main entrance by the bell, weather permitting. If it is raining, parents will come in and form a line by 4k. 3rd graders will make their way through the building passing all homerooms and exiting the main door to the parent reception line. If you will not be attending the 3rd Grade parade please meet outside by the playground at 11:30.
Picnic will end at 12:00. School will be dismissed at 12:25. If you would like to take your child home after the picnic , please be sure to sign out with your child’s teacher. Report cards will either be distributed at sign-out time or sent home in your child's backpack.
Throughout the school year, the GCJ2 Staff Wellness Committee, which consists of volunteer staff members, shares various ways for our staff to encourage wellness consciousness and increase various bands of wellness such as their physical, mental, and social activities. Activities focusing on wellness are put out for staff to participate in voluntarily, with fun prizes awarded - courtesy of generous donations from local businesses. This year, we are thankful for the following businesses and people that have donated to and/or supported our Staff Wellness:
Evolve Fitness Studio, Lake City Social Lake Geneva, Grand Geneva Resort & Spa - Josh Doyle, Low Daily, The Runaway Micropub and Nanobrewery, Towne & Country Lanes, Infinity Coffee & Beyond- Cafe B, Plaza Theater, Main Event Pub and Grill, The Bottle Shop - Lake Geneva, The Candle Mercantile, Richmond Mercantile, Mrs. Derickson for staff yoga, Mrs. Brenek for drumfit, and our committee members for asking and gathering donations -- but a huge shout out to Mrs. Conrardy and Miss Pacholczak for leading in the asking and gathering donations. Additionally, a HUGE thank you to our Wellness Committee members for putting together ALL the activities like monthly wellness bingo, bi-weekly inspirational emails, encouraging affirmations in staff locations, and the list goes on and on and on….
We were also SO excited to bring back mini massages for our teachers to partake in on-site which was one of the grand prizes this year. Thank you to James from Therapeutic Balance for his service to our staff!

Yesterday, 5K-3rd had a blast on their field trip! They went on a Lake Geneva boat tour, had lunch in the park, and visited the Lake Geneva Library! Thank you to all the parents that came along and to the teachers for sharing these pictures!

Come learn about the 50 states! 4th graders have been working hard to research and learn about a state and want to share what they have learned with you! Join them on Friday, May 31 from 1:30 - 2:30 to celebrate their learning!
A tradition we are building at Brookwood Middle School is an annual collaboration between art and band. The photography classes learn about composition, lighting, and backgrounds, this helps our students when taking the photos. 7th and 8th grade band students come to the art room for a series of formal portraits; one holding their instrument, one playing their instrument, and one photo of a close up of their hands playing their instrument. This project was inspired by a quote that Mrs. Collins shared
"As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself, the other for helping others." -Audrey Hepburn
"The beauty of music-making is that you do both simultaneously."
Students take home their photos at the end of the spring concert. All photos are taken and edited on the school ipads. Thank you to Callie C, Alyvia S, and Allie B!
1st grade students learned about the life cycles in science this spring. All of the scientists at BES watched as chicks and ducklings were incubated and hatched. All together there were 9 chicks and 6 ducklings that went to good feather-ever homes!

Brookwood Middle School is excited to be celebrating our 4th-7th graders and their character on June 5th. This year, we are inviting students to Sky Zone or Timber Ridge Water Park if they have met Be Brookwood Expectations. Last night, BES Kindness Squad presented to the school board and community members the many service projects they have completed this year. Kindness Squad members were then recognized for all of their service hours they have done both in the school and within the community. Way to go, Kindness Squad!!
Sixth grade students are learning about how clouds and convection currents work. It has been a perfect season to study weather and storms!
Last week, our 1st graders took their field trip to Veterans Park and the Badger High School greenhouses! The students had a lot of fun playing together at the park and then learning from high schoolers about how to care for plants. Our students even had a chance to plant their own flower! This was a great way to finish their unit learning all about plants!

Sign up on this form for this great community opportunity located at BMS! Signing up for a week entitles you to a summer of harvesting whatever is ready to be picked and what you can use for your table. There is plenty! Many hands make light work and it will be necessary to weed and water the garden at least 3 times a week.
Please check what month and week works best for you. Weeks run from Sunday to Saturday. We will be holding an informational meeting on May 14th at 5 to discuss what has already been planned and planted as well as what needs to be planted. Please sign up for two weeks so we can give you the best option of a week you want.
