Hello Brookwood Elementary Families,
It’s time to celebrate Kindness Week! We will kick off Kindness week on Friday, February 16th with an all school kindness pep assembly. Kindness week will run through February 23rd. The purpose of our annual kindness week is to celebrate the importance of kindness, understanding, empathy and acceptance. We are excited to share two new events added to our annual kindness week - National Random Act Of Kindness Day Participation and Classroom Service Projects!
National Random Acts Of Kindness Day is on Saturday, February 17th. At the end of the Kindness kick off assembly, students will be given a pink slip of paper to bring home. They will be encouraged to do a “random act of kindness” for someone. This can be something the student does on their own, with a parent or it can be something done as a family. Fill out the pink slip and send it back to school on Monday (a picture of the student/family doing a RAK emailed to Mrs. Fitzsimmons is a bonus!). RAK pictures will be put into a slide show for students to see and RAK (Random Acts Of Kindness) slips will be read throughout the week during morning announcements
Classroom Service Projects In the past, during kindness week, we have always done some sort of donation drive. Though our donation drives have always been very successful (thank you!) This year, we want students to be more involved. Grade levels/classrooms will be coming up with a community service project or a way to provide a random act of kindness that their students can actively participate in. How we need your help to make this the best experience for our students: your child’s teacher may be reaching out for help with 1. supplies to be able to complete their random act of kindness/community service project and/or 2. Volunteers to help students in the classroom prepare/carry out their random act of kindness/community service during Kindness Week.
Along with working on their community service project/random act of kindness during this week, classrooms will be reading stories related to kindness and doing academic activities around the theme of kindness. See attached flier for Kindness Week themed days.

4K Messy Science Outreach! The is no regular 4K programming this day. We can't wait to see our 4K friends and families at this event. For more information, please reach out to your child's 4K teacher.

We are so excited for this exciting trip for our 4K! There is no regular 4K programming on this day as they learn about the different things in nature through a variety of sensory experiences. These exploratory and sensory activities will get participants to follow their curiosity and get an up-close look in their natural environments. Please dress for the weather as this experience is outdoors.

Feb. 2nd is National Wear Red Day: Raise Heart Health Awareness

Children 18 mos. and up, along with their caregivers, are invited to connect with fellow families and gain information about our FREE community playgroup! Our certified staff will provide valuable insights into developmental milestones and will be running fun activities that target specific developmental areas: fine & gross motor, speech & language, social/emotional, and pre-academics. Parents with developmental concerns about their child can fill out a screening questionnaire. Call Carey at 262-279-6496 to register.

What a beautiful winter day for a trip to the forest! Our 4K - 4th grade naturalists were able to spend almost 2 hours snow shoeing, bushwhacking (exploring the forest off trail), learning
about ice fishing, and touching mounted North American forest animals. Forts were made, snowmen were camouflaged, trees were climbed, bears were stroked, and smiles were everywhere. After hot chocolate and granola bar snacks at the warming station, the milk jugs to be used as luminaries for the night hike were decorated and bagged. Their adventure in the school forest had a little something for everyone, especially fun! We hope to see you at the school forest for the family night hike on Saturday, February 3rd for 4-8 pm.
Hello, BES Heart Heroes! Are you ready?! Kids Heart Challenge is coming to Brookwood Elementary soon! We have exciting things planned this year to get us moving, helping others and having fun. Families are invited to come in and visit various grade level pods where we will host reading strategies for all ages with some of your favorite fictional characters, genres, authors, and topics to support academic strategies you can use at home! As you visit the rooms, make sure you check off your "Bingo" sheet so you can then join in on the mini s'mores snack bar in the cafeteria where you and your family can read "s'more" books together and also
join in on the book exchange!

Thank you to all the families that participated in our Family Engagement Team’s Staff Scavenger Hunt. We hope you all had as much fun participating as we did putting it together!! It’s not too late to turn those sheets in if you still have them!! Here’s a few snapshots of some of our prize winners!!!
Enjoy walking the illuminated Tom Holden trail at Memorial Park and school forest. Dress for being outside and go at your own pace, once or multiple times. There will also be a fire warming station and hot cocoa (as long as it lasts!). Come and go as you please, but make sure all children are with an adult. Hope to see you there!

FAMILY NIGHT HIKE HAS BEEN POSTPONED:
Due to the frigid wind chill factors, the Family Night Hike will have to be postponed. Information will be given as soon as a safer date has been set.
