Students in Mrs. Conrardy’s 4K class were engaged in four different focus areas during centers this week! The four centers included pumpkin investigation, building, and two dramatic play areas (kitchen and ice cream truck)! In the pumpkin investigation, students made observations while picking out seeds (using our fine motor skills) and playing in the pumpkin pulp. They learned about the different parts of a pumpkin (seeds, pulp, rind, and stem) and discussed how using our five senses is important during an investigation. In the other three centers, students engaged in social interaction. It is during this time that students learn to problem solve and resolve conflict all while pretending to cook or set a table and also build a structure while work at the ice cream truck. Students demonstrate understanding of rules during this time as well. Students work on taking turns, sharing and working together. These activities help to build a classroom community. #BrookwoodsBest

Our Director of Pupil Services, Julia Garczynski, is excited to let our families know that Brookwood Schools is partnering with PSG to offer our students and families school-based mental health services. These services can benefit students who may be in need of additional support to work through social or emotional concerns. PSG staff members will be on site in our school buildings to provide counseling for individuals or families. In addition, PSG will be working with school staff to help them expand their strategies for working with students in their classrooms. All providers are licensed by the State of Wisconsin and are trained in Trauma Informed Care. Brookwood Schools are committed to removing barriers so that our students have every opportunity to have their needs met and to succeed in our community and beyond. Referrals can be made through our school counselors. If you are interested in your child receiving these services, please contact either Kalyn Obry (BMS) or April Fitzsimmons (BES). #BrookwoodsBest

Thank you to UW-Extension Walworth County for coming out to work with our staff on helping us become more aware of the issues of poverty. A special shout out to Amanda and Mary for spending the morning with us and running the simulation and a HUGE shout out to all of our volunteers that came out as well!! We are truly lucky to have the community members that we do. Poverty is prevalent all over the world and we are fortunate to get this opportunity as a staff to be a part of this poverty simulation to help us to dispel the myths of poverty and increase empathy and understanding. #BrookwoodsBest

Did you know….the total distance of a marathon is 26.2 miles which is about 504 times the size of a standard football field….? Did you know…that only approximately 0.5% of the US population has ran a marathon….? Did you know….you can now say that you personally know someone that has completed not just one marathon but THREE marathons?!?!? Congrats to Mr. Guth for completing his third marathon at the 2019 Lakefront Marathon this past weekend!! Mr. Guth is a part of our Brookwood staff running club and co-coaches both the cross country and track teams. We are so very #MustangProud that as a district we not only value the health and wellbeing of our students, but so many of our adult staff members are actively looking to improve their wellness level as well. #BrookwoodsBest Facts taken from: http://www.marathontrainingschedule.com

Every afternoon, Mrs. Renn's kindergarteners work on their Be Brookwood skills. They practice being kind, safe, and responsible during Play Workshop. They make a plan with their group to make sure they are ready to get along and play nicely. Each day, students choose which activities or areas they want to participate taking turns going first at. Their activities change every two weeks. Students can build, play pretend, and explore with their classmates. Students have so much fun working with their peers to polish up on their Be Brookwood skills. #BrookwoodsBest

Students in Mrs. Brault's Kindergarten classroom love participating in math centers! Centers are a mix of hands-on, technology, and paper-pencil work. Students at the green table sorted 5-frame drawings by the number they corresponded to, then drew in a 5-frame to match the given number; students at the burgundy table sorted real objects by shape on Seesaw and then worked on IXL to improve their number sense; students at the red table filled in the missing number on their number cards and then used a pencil to write what number was missing, and students on the rug sorted a variety of things that were in the sensory table. Way to make us #MustangProud and being #BrookwoodsBest!! Helping all Children to Grow into Greatness! Head to our Facebook page to see more pictures! Facebook.com/GenoaCitySchools/
